Structuring Resumes for Big Tech

Big Tech companies receive millions of resumes a year. Recruiter screeners spend an average of 6 seconds glancing at your document before deciding your fate. You must optimize for instant readability and obvious impact.

The XYZ Formula

Google notoriously advocates for the XYZ formula: "Accomplished [X] as measured by [Y], by doing [Z]." Every single bullet point on your resume should follow this exact structure to guarantee maximum clarity.

  • Example: Reduced latency by 20% (X) saving $50k annually (Y) by rewriting the caching layer in Go (Z).
  • Remove all subjective adjectives; let the technical achievements stand alone.

Ensure your GitHub profile and live project links are prominently displayed at the top. In FAANG hiring, code is always king.
